Keeping your Computer Safe
With broadband, your computer can stay connected to the Internet as long as you like. This can put your computer at more risk from being attacked and infected by viruses, so it's important to give some thought to your computer's security.
We recommend keeping your computer safe by:
- Installing Firefox (from the firefox logo on this page),
- Getting some anti-virus and anti-spyware software (freely available by downloading Google Pack, on this page),
- Running Windows Update automatically, or Software Update on a Mac
- If you have a WiFi network in your house, make sure that it is secured with a password to prevent your neighbours slowing your connection down.
- Keep an eye on your account usage - if your computer is infected you'll often see a spike in your usage
