Network Addressing

Standard Service

All of our home access plans include a fixed IP address. When using an ADSL Router to give multiple computers access to the Internet, this fixed IP address is assigned to the router's ADSL port. Computers on your network can use 'private' addressing. The router translates this address to the 'public' address using NAT. An example of such a home network is shown below. Computers with red connections are on the private network, and blue the public network.

Such a setup allows all your computers to use the Internet.

Additional routed network

Power users may wish one of their computers to have a public address to allow it to serve web pages to other Internet users. To do so, AlwaysONLINE also offers an additional routed network of up to 2 addresses to be associated with your ADSL connection.

Take note that in this configuration, one of the two routed addresses must be used by the ADSL router's ethernet port, giving 1 free address for use by a computer on your network.

To subscribe to this service, simply select "Additional 2 Addresses" on the registration form. Please note that configuration of the router and PCs to use the additional addresses is not part of this service. End users are referred to their router and PC Operating System vendor on how to configure the additional addresses.
